Auction Spotlight: 1937 Dragones de Ciudad Trujillo Signed Team Sheet

Put together by Dominican Republic Dictator Rafael Trujillo, the 1937 Dragones de Ciudad Trujillo are regarded as one of the best baseball teams ever assembled, comprised of multiple future hall of famers including Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson, and James “Cool Papa” Bell. With difficulty luring major league stars to play in the Dominican at the time, Trujillo went to the Negro Leagues to recruit the best talent available in order to secure the team the championship amid political turmoil in the country.

A piece of this historic team is featured in our upcoming March 27th Sports Card & Memorabilia auction. The signed sheet by seven members 1937 Dragones Baseball Team has a pre-sale estimate of $30,000-50,000.

Authenticated by JSA, it features the signatures of Hall of Famers Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson, and James “Cool Papa” Bell. The sheet is also signed by four other players from the team: Robert Griffith, Harry Williams, Leroy Matlock, and Sammy Bankhead.

The sale features over 400 great lots of high-end graded sports cards, complete sets from 1950’s to Modern era, rare signed cards, great signed memorabilia from legends of various sports, and many great lots of non-sport cards.
